Workshop On Raising Awareness of NACORAC’s Operations Held in Ankara

As part of the Supporting the Institutional Capacity of the National Coordination and Joint Risk Analysis Centre (NACORAC) Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Representation of ICMPD in Türkiye, with the Presidency of Migration Management as the primary beneficiary, a workshop was held in Ankara on 25-26 December 2024 to raise awareness of the operations of the National Coordination and Joint Risk Analysis Centre (NACORAC).

Organised within the scope of the Border Management Portfolio of the Representation of ICMPD in Türkiye, the workshop aimed to contribute to the enhancement of data-driven decision-making mechanisms in Türkiye's border management and to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation.

Inter-Institutional Exchange of Views Held During The Two-Day Workshop

Throughout the workshop, discussions focused not only on improving the understanding of the National Coordination and Joint Risk Analysis Centre (NACORAC) among institutions responsible for migration and border management and raising awareness of its operations but also on reviewing ongoing efforts to enhance the Centre’s institutional capacity and outlining future objectives in detail. The first day of the event brought together a total of 101 participants, including representatives from relevant public institutions such as the Presidency of Migration Management, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Trade, Directorate General of Security, Gendarmerie General Command, and Coast Guard Command, as well as academics and civil society representatives. On the second day, technical and operational progress sessions were held with the participation of central and local stakeholders, which were attended by 73 participants in total.

Participants contributed their insights on key presentations, including the introduction of the 2024 Annual Risk Analysis Report and the roadmap developed to enhance NACORAC’s operational capabilities. Additionally, good practices and strategies aimed at strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, information sharing, and coordination were discussed. Various sessions addressed irregular migration, transnational crimes, and security threats, focusing on potential solutions. With the active participation of stakeholder institution representatives, challenges related to joint efforts and coordination were examined, and recommendations to support progress in these areas were recorded.
